Health Services
The Pupil Health Services Program is available to Detroit Lakes nonpublic schools and homeschools which are operating within our district's boundaries. The licensed school nurse provides these services at no charge if you check the box for Pupil Health Services on the form titled "Student Report for Aids to Nonpublic Students".
A few services to homeschools and nonpublic schools include (but may not be limited to):
· Immunization Record Keeping
Public school districts are required by MN law ( MS 121A.15 ) to maintain immunization records for all students, including homeschooled and nonpublic students. The licensed school nurse follows up with home school parents to obtain immunization records to submit an “Annual Immunization Status Report for Homeschool Students” to the MN Department of Health each fall. Additional information on immunizations can be found at http://www.health.state.mn.us/immunize .
· General Health Questions
Jean Schwartz, the school nurse, is available for consultation regarding non-emergency health concerns such as health resources, communicable disease, or available health screenings. Her contact info is listed above.
· Screenings: Vision and Hearing
Vision and Hearing health screenings are offered at age appropriate levels during the school year, typically in the fall. These screenings follow guidelines developed by the MN Department of Health. If you would like your child to participate in a screening, contact the school nurse.
