Math teams from DLMS and DLHS competed last week at MSUM's Tri-College Math Competition. The competition is put on in coordination with the mathematics departments from MSUM, Concordia, and NDSU. The tests are written by faculty members and the host site rotates yearly. Middle school and high school students from Minnesota and North Dakota participate in this day-long event. This year DLPS sent 3 teams from the middle school and 2 teams plus 2 individuals from the high school. Our students represented DLPS well with outstanding behavior and participation throughout the competition!
Detroit Lakes Public School students from 7th and 8th grade had the opportunity to participate in two math contests this school year; the Tri-College competition on March 11th and the MathCounts competition on February 5th, both hosted at MSUM this year.
MathCounts is a national math competition hosted regionally by a civil engineering group. Local schools compete in chapter competitions across the country. DLPS is part of the Height of Land Chapter and students compete against teams from Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls, Battle Lake, Park Christian, Perham, Fargo, and Moorhead. DLPS sent 12 competitors: 4 took both team and individual rounds, plus 8 students completed individually. While DLPS didn’t take home awards this year, our students had a great time and did well with the higher-level math skills they employed throughout the day!
